Wicklow farmhouse extension

A traditional vernacular farmhouse was reorganised to provide a kitchen and dinging space in a new extension.

The opportunity was taken to use the new element to form a partial informal courtyard in combination with the original house and existing outbuildings and farm structures.

The new structure also provides a single storey entrance lobby and wc. with access to both a parking area to the North and courtyard access to the South whilst linking all to the original house.

The mono pitched vaulted south facing kitchen dining space offers a bright contrast to the original rooms of the farmhouse. A large, glazed timber screen with integrated shading optimising solar gain. Circular rooflights light the rear section of the space with the new structure finished externally with a dashed render.
