Firestation Artists Studios

Originally an Edwardian purpose built firestation this protected structure was converted to artist studios and workspaces in the 1990’s. Following a period acting as consultant on a feasibility study KMA was engaged by Firestation Artists Studios to design the conversion on an adjoining three storey terraced house to provide additional artists studios and a multipurpose gallery space. 

An existing return was removed and rebuilt to provide the necessary additional space for two live work studios on the first and second floor with a multipurpose space on the ground floor. New links back into the Firestation complext were proposed at ground and first floor levels 

The required interventions were conceived to minimise disruption to the existing fabric of the terraced house with the careful conservation of original joinery, brickwork and plasterwork.
