Remodeled house in Wicklow

A traditional vernacular cottage was remodelled to provide a two-bedroom modernised house on a mountain site in South County Wicklow. Single storey to the north, the contours allowed the provision of a second floor to the south. In a process of removal and addition, a new timber frame box was inserted into the centre of the house plan to provide a new entrance/dining kitchen area, with a sleeping platform over and a bathroom to the rear.

The new structure is clad with larch boards internally and externally, with a traditional wet dash finish to the remaining walls. A box bay window to the gable frames mountain views to the south.
